Austin Wrap-Up

On Tuesday, our team explored Austin in the afternoon. First, we went spelunking at Inner Space Caverns! Then, we went to downtown Austin to witness the nightly flight of a colony of 1.5 million bats at Congress Avenue Bridge and explored the surrounding streets. The group loves Austin!

Here’s how our crews have been served the rest of the week:

The Georgetown Housing Authority crew cleaned Violet’s unit and even walked Zoe, the Chihuahua, whose owner was disabled. Wit their project finished, they will be reassigned tomorrow to clean up a local regional park.

At AGE, the crew played Just Dance, helped residents with arts and crafts, worked out with the seniors, played bingo and checkers, and danced to some hits played by a local musician!

The Boys’ and Girls’ Club crew had a great time playing games with the kids in the yard and helped lead a vacation Bible school.

The crew at Austin State Supported Living Center participated in a worship service with residents and are working on setting up a new ‘sensory’ room for the residents.

The Angel House crew continues to prepare and serve 400 lunches a day to people in need of a meal for any reason. They also interacted with the guests, helped sort donations, and cleaned the oven.

At Heroes’ Night Out, the crew planted flowers at a veteran’s home, sanded and painted porch chairs, then did yardwork at “the other Larry house”.

By the end of the week, our happy campers had served a total of 768 hours. Not only that, but we had discovered God’s presence at work all over the city of Austin. We will always count it a treasured memory that we were able to play a part in sharing God’s love and compassion in the city. Check out some pics of our Austin experience here!
