Bay Area Mission Trip – Thursday

On the last full day of service, Team 1 (Leaders Michele & Chris) served at Village Project’s summer camp for school-age children. The team accompanied children as chaperones on their field trip to Alcatraz after playing with the children in the church classroom where the day camp is held.

At St. Mary’s Groceries, Team 2 (Leaders Jaime & Slade) sorted and prepped food for distribution to seniors. Youth cleaned and delivered hot meals to people who are homebound through Project Open Hand. They also saw a demonstration of how fortune cookies are made!

Team 3 (Leaders Keris & Jeremy) spent the morning serving at the Food Bank. At Golden Gate Park, they met a family including four children experiencing homelessness. The youth used their “Meet a Need” cash to purchase dinner for the family then talked about their encounter with the family at Ocean Beach.

The entire group from LOPC wrapped up the day with a pizza dinner at Civic Center Park followed by a devotional led by Keris and some time spent reflecting on the week of service. There was a lot of shared laughter as team members shared funny quotes from the week which will appear on team shirts, to be distributed on Youth Sunday.

Tomorrow, the mission team will visit the Marine Mammal Center for a tour of their rehabilitation & release program facilities then return home for some well-deserved rest! They will reunite tomorrow afternoon along with their families for a celebration potluck while team members share with their families what they learned and how they met God during their week of service.

All family and community members are invited to hear more about this mission trip experience, along with LOPC’s other summer family ministry opportunities including Vacation Bible Camp, Service Squad, and the High School Mission Trip to Houston, Texas at Youth Sunday worship services on August 26. All aspects of the service will be led by children, youth, and families. We hope to see you there!
