Sowers is a service-learning program designed to get families with elementary- and middle school-aged children interested in mission. During this joint project between Children’s Ministry and Mission, families serve together over a series of mission projects spread throughout the year. After each project, they debrief the experience together, sometimes over a meal, during a time of spiritual formation. They reflect critically on the experience, engage with each other in developmentally appropriate ways, and seek where God was speaking during their time together.

In order to join the program, families must commit to serving all of the proposed dates during the program year, eschewing other obligations (like sports) in favor of Sowers. This protects the integrity and cohesion of the group experiences. Because of the strenuous nature of the work, kids must be at least 7 years old/in 1st grade. Families must also regularly attend LOPC.

Once we confirm dates for 2018-2019, we will post them here. Every member of the family must be able to attend all five dates. The approximate timing for the dates are:

  • Orientation: late August/early September
  • Service Date 1: late September
  • Service Date 2: mid-November
  • Service Date 3: late February
  • Service Date 4: mid-to-late April
