Thursday Fellowship
Lunch-Fellowship-Activities-Entertainment for Senior Adults

Thursdays 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM

The Thursday Fellowship Program has operated continuously for more than 30 years, providing a consistent, caring community for older adults. The program provides a caring lifeline to those elders who want to maintain their ties with a larger community.

Hosted by enthusiastic LOPC volunteers, the program provides a shared salad & cookies, music and other entertainment, educational programs, light exercise and special activities. Guests whose needs exceed the abilities of our volunteer staff are asked to be accompanied by a family member or professional caregiver. Some transportation assistance is available. Thursday Fellowship is a member of the Contra Costa Network of Day Care Providers.

How to Get Involved
If you have a willing heart and feel called to care for older people, Thursday Fellowship is for you. Some of our volunteers have supported this ministry for many, many years. Below is the story of one such volunteer who has been participating in this ministry since it's early conception.

"Thirty-one years ago Bob and I were just entering a new chapter of our lives. We were newly retired and were eagerly anticipating the many pleasures we had waited to enjoy. We wanted to travel more, square dance, join in more church activities, do some volunteering and read all the wonderful books that had collected on the shelves. We were fortunate enough to accomplish many of these desires. However, the years slipped rapidly away. Too soon came the realization that while our spirits were willing, our bodies informed us that we had to slow down. We needed to find a pleasurable activity that we could regularly take part in.

Recently, we were greeted with an invitation to come visit the Thursday Senior Fellowship group. "Bring a half of a sandwich" and join us for a couple of hours of fun and fellowship. We did come, and upon entering the hall we found festive table settings, a sizeable group of seniors gathered together busily working on a craft project, a pleasant feeling surrounding everyone. There were those who needed a bit of help and a loving group who were ready to help them. Following lunch we were entertained with a beautiful musical program. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole day's program. With lots of smiles and goodbyes we returned home. Now each week we look forward to another Thursday with the Senior Fellowship group. Come soon and enjoy it with us!"
