Zimbabwe Mission

More than 2,000 people in Zimbabwe die of AIDS in Zimbabwe each week. At least one million children have lost their parents to the disease, and we felt called to something about it.

In 2007, LOPC decided to partner with Pastor Robert Scott and Gloria Cox-Crowell of Allen Temple Baptist Church of Oakland in the church’s HIV/AIDS Ministry. The relationship continues to grow stronger with the integration of members from both churches coming together to sort and package life-saving medications and acquire donations to send to Zimbabwe.

The first combined trip between LOPC and Allen Temple was in March of 2008. Pastor Scott led a group of LOPC participants, including Barbara & Dick Abel, Penny Baird, Matt Chivers, Tom Conrad, Bill DeWolf, Cindy Robbins, Kaaren & Larry Rose and John Weems, and participants from Allen Temple.  The focus of the trip was to distribute anti-retroviral medications to clinics in Zimbabwe and to work at the Mother of Peace Orphanage.  

The trip has transformed the participants and, in turn, the LOPC congregation.
