2008 Stewardship Campaign
Stewardship Update for February 10
Stewardship Puzzle: Where Do I Fit In?
The 2008 stewardship campaign theme is “The Stewardship Puzzle – Where do I fit in?" Here are thoughts behind the theme:
-
We recognize that there are many ways in which Christians act as good stewards of the blessings God has bestowed upon them. Only one of them is financial. Others include contributions of time to charitable causes, acts of generosity to friends, neighbors, colleagues, and even strangers, conservation of environmental resources, and spending time in prayer for God’s will to be done “here on earth.” All of these are a critical part of God’s mission here at LOPC and beyond
-
Almost all of us have questions about stewardship. We have difficulty selecting which causes, among so many worthy ones, to support. We wonder how much time and money to give to the church and secular charities. We hear of the tithe and proportional giving, but we struggle to make them part of our lives. The Stepping Up Giving Planner (download PDF) may help you with one of the puzzle pieces
-
People are motivated toward charitable giving in different ways. Research suggests that approximately 80% of givers do so because “those who have more should give to those who have less,” and religious giving makes up the largest share by far of charitable giving. Nonetheless, some people are motivated principally by scriptures and spiritual considerations. Others are interested more in how the church uses its resources and want to support mission and worship programs. Others are concerned that the church meet its budget
