Baptism.
Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into the Church. It is one of the two sacraments of the reformed church - baptism and communion. For Christians, this sacrament is the gateway into the family of families, the Church. It can be received at any age.
Baptism is a pre-requisite for full membership in the church which occurs following confirmation. Pastors are available to discuss the meaning and significance of this sacrament.
Baptism is:
- a sacrament instituted by Christ and administered
by the church - an essential part of the public ministry of the church
- part of the full expression of the Word of God
- a means of showing the saving grace of the Word of God in Jesus Christ
- affirms that believers and their children are heirs of the covenant of grace
- both God's act and the people's response
- administered only once to each person as a sign of membership in the universal church
- not administered as an emergency measure
to ensure salvation
